The metamorphosis from a caterpillar into a butterfly occurs inside a protective shell known as a chrysalis. The caterpillar's old body dies and a new body forms. The chrysalis has been the symbol of transformation since this biological process was discovered and studied. In a similar fashion, I try to give a second life to odd bits and pieces of silver that are leftovers from the creation of other pieces. I try to work in a green and environmentally friendly studio and it’s important to me not to waste silver, nor to let it interfere with nature. It would be easy to send my scraps for recycling or melt them into a brand new ingot, but I’d rather keep a trace of their former life and personality. By fusing them to a larger or smaller extent, I create unique pieces that blend the organic with the brutalist, the old and the new, the exuberant and the mysterious.
